Police Intercepts Contraband Boats
The two intercepted boats: Pray to God, captained by one KelfalaKamara was loaded with PVC pipes, vehicle types, binding wires andother items while Sabena Air Koba, captained by one Unisa Turayalias Makeni Boy was loaded with bundles of plastic buckets,PVC Slipper and cartoons of cooking Maggie cubes. All the items in the two boats were suspected to have evadedcustoms duties for which the matter was referred to the NationalRevenue Authority (NRA). In another related incident, joint personnel of the police marineand Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF} Maritime Wing,headed by Lieutenant Jenkins onboard Cutter Boat 02 and captainedby Lieutenant Kamara departed Government Wharf for normal seapatrol and in the process arrested a trawler named “KepaThree” captained by Gwogan, a Korean national and twelve crewmembers. The suspects were charged for the following offences: - Trawlingwithout license and government observers onboard, trawling in aprohibited area, including Economic Exclusive Zone. The matter was preliminarily investigated at the Maritime Wing ofthe army at Government Wharf and later transferred to the Ministryof Marine Resources where the culprits were fined the sum ofthirty-five thousand United States Dollars (US$35, 000, 00) whichthey paid.
